Pastel hues are synonymous with spring, but they aren’t all about being cutesy and tranquil. These days, Allure magazine reports that more people are opting for edgy pastels for everything from their clothing to makeup. That being said, what exactly are “power pastels” and how can you wear them without looking too bold?

“Power pastels” can be simply defined as bright shades such as cotton candy pink and mint green that have an ample amount of pigment. Gone are the days when ladies played it safe with baby blue and girly pink for their ensembles! More importantly, these colors are showing up in makeup as well. Models and celebrities are being seen with vivid pastels on their lids as they pose for the public.

If you want to take advantage of this trend, Harper’s Bazaar magazine recommends opting for shades such as lavender and rose as you revamp your makeup collection. Focusing on one area of your face, such as your pout, is a good idea if you’re too nervous to go bold with color around your entire face. Play around with different shades of lipstick until you find one that complements your skin tone.

About Lia Marchand

Shayna Murphy is a beauty blogger from Amherst, Massachusetts, who can trace her love of beauty products back to the one afternoon when she convinced her grandmother to buy her lime green nail polish. She enjoys cooking (Indian-style dishes are a specialty!), is a bit of a history buff and collects antique milk vases. Shayna reports on the latest makeup, skincare and fashion trends and will try to convince you on a regular basis that yes, you really should wear sunscreen daily. My favorite beauty product is... - Anything containing sea salt. It's probably the most amazing exfoliant I've ever used and it leaves my skin feeling fresh and smoother than ever. Can't leave the house without my... - Lip gloss. The rest of the day can be a total bust, but if I have a great gloss on I feel like at least I've done one thing right! I would describe my style as... - Definitely au naturale. While I love exploring new shades of eyeshadow and liner on special occasions, for me the most important part of any beauty regimen is keeping my skin clear and blemish-free.
