If you’ve been keeping up-to-date on the fashion and beauty world lately, you’ve probably heard the word “ombre” about a million times. It’s referring to that gradual color-change that you often see on celebrity hair and nails. Think Rachel Bilson’s grown-out highlights.

Ombre nails are super easy to achieve and the best way to rock them is by painting each of your five fingernails a different shade of the same color. While you could stock up on five similar shades of Lippmann Collection – Nail Lacquers, that might not be a part of your budget.

If you’re willing to get a little intense about your manicure, you may want to consider mixing up your own shades using a white polish, like Nailtini – Sugar Rim Manicure Kit (White Lady & Pirouette). Just get a plastic tupperware lid and use a small paintbrush to swirl together drops of your favorite shade of polish with the white. Use more white in each mix so you have a gradual lightening effect.
